I
always asked God what I should study in college. I took a pre medicine
study plan taking a Theology degree and a biology minor. Then as we were
married and having to work to pay our way through college, both my husband
and I took the Registered nursing program. Nursing was mostly on the
Portland campus during the last two years and I gave hopes of finishing my
Theology degree. We took a year out as missionaries into Mexico and then
finished our senior year of nursing. |
On
campus day I planned to go up to the other campus and see if I could take
some of the classes I needed for finishing my Theology degree while I was
in Portland. I hoped that a local speech class in another college could
replace the classes called pulpit address.
After prayer, I left for Walla Walla College campus on campus day to see Elder Malcolm Maxwell to discuss my desire to finish with two degrees. There were several petitions I had to make for replacement classes.

| I began to learn this very important lesson. A lesson
God has shown me over and over through my life. It is important to ask Him
for guidance in our decisions. He knows the end from the beginning. It is
not a sign of weakness to talk to HIM. He can see the future. I cannot. I
can save myself heartaches of taking the wrong road if I just ask Him
about everything. Daniel, David, and others in the Bible teach us that
too.
It is the very essence of all right faith to do the right thing at the right time. God is the great Master Worker, and by His providence He prepares the way for His work to be accomplished. He provides opportunities, opens up lines of influence, and channels of working. If His people are watching the indications of His providence, and stand ready to co-operate with Him, they will see a great work accomplished. Their efforts, rightly directed, will produce a hundredfold greater results than can be accomplished with the same means and facilities in another channel where God is not so manifestly working." CET - Christian Experience and Teachings of Ellen G. White (1922) I believe this is what He has done in our lives. I hope and pray that I do not block what He is trying to do in our lives. |
Our
next step was asking God to help us reach our goal of medical school. We
went to Loma Linda so we could become known and accepted. Competition was
with 2000 others over 100 or so seats in the class. Even if we all had the
qualifications, they had to weed us out some way. I was told I was too
old. I was 28. Because of this disappointment, I began schooling in
masters level Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program offered for the first
time at Loma Linda. Then we decided we would buy a home and settle down
hoping some year to make it into medical school. We also applied in a
Missouri med school but they lost our files. It all looked impossible so
we decided to buy a simple old home and keep trying for Loma Linda. |
Just
five minutes before signing the final papers, we had a phone call
for interviews in Kansas City medical school. I told them "no" for myself, and Ron went on
out and began schooling. I finished my Nurse Practitioner program 6 months
later and joined him. Nine years later we both had our training in medicine and
graduated from residency training. God had led us to Kansas City for our
training. He has helped us in our choices because we prayed to Him. |
